Beach

CDF and MDF went to the beach this past Thursday. They met two friends, Kristen and Anna Cate, and Cristy and Clara. CDF said they all had a great time playing in the sand. The water was still very cold, but MDF gave it a try once — to throw a sea shell in the water — and after that was content to leave it alone.

Dadu’s 90th Birthday

We went up to Jacksonville last Sunday to celebrate Dadu’s birthday. We got there after the lunch, but in time for cake.

Midnight Germs

For the past couple of nights MDF has been waking up around Midnight and crying. Eventually we determined that her mouth was hurting and CDF thinks it has something to do with her 24-month molars.

So last night she woke up and told me her mouth hurt when I went to see what was wrong. I told her we were going to get Tylenol so her mouth would feel better. While I was rummaging through the medicine drawer looking for her medicine she spotted the “Airborne for Kids” bottle that had little cartoon characters that were supposed to be germs. “Beanie” had gotten the bottle for MDF last fall and for a long time MDF carried around the box which also had pictures of the “germs.” So she got very interested in that and told me that she needed medicine for her germs.

I told her that the medicine was too big for her to eat, and anyway one had to put it in a cup in water and let it dissolve before you could drink it. That was okay, she would take it in the morning.

After I put her in bed and said good night, she talked (for about 15 minutes) about the germs and told her stuffed animals about needing medicine for germs.

Then this morning she has told CDF over and over, after pretending to cough in her hand, that she has a germ and needs BIG medicine.

Lunch, and Getting Stuck

I met CDF and MDF yesterday to shop at the Sam’s Club and then we went to lunch at Chic-Fil-A. The restaurant had an inside playground area, and MDF asked to go in it as soon as she saw it. So we told her she could after we ate.

Apparently she has been in one before with her friend Mackenzie, but this time she went in the playground alone and she seemed a little intimidated. She’s just a little to short to climb most of it, but I was able to help her up to the level where she could make it to the slide. Unfortunately once she got there she didn’t want to try to go any further. There was a tunnel to her right that would lead her to the slide and so I tried to get her to go through it. Only after much coaxing did she give it a try and then she apparently couldn’t make it up the slight slope and came back out the way she went in.

Eventually it was time to go and since she couldn’t get to the slide to get down, she had to climb back down the way she went up, and that posed another problem. Finally CDF crawled in the first level and helped her down.

Words Become Sentences

MDF is a talker, no doubt about that, and she talks very well for her age. There are things she says, especially how she pronounces words, that make me smile.

“Parringe” is what she has in her bowl for you to eat. It’s not “porange” a.k.a. porridge. I think she gets this from Mother Goose with the “Peas Porridge” song/rhyme.

And there are others, which unfortunately are not coming to mind at the moment.

She still says “t” for “c” and “d” for “g”. As in “tat” and “doddie” for cat and doggie. And I think “l” and “r” still come out as “w”: “wet’s go pway in da wiving woom.” 🙂

On the other hand, she can sing a lot of the Mother Goose rhymes, the “Bob and Larry” songs (Veggie Tales), and other children songs that are on her CD’s (Old McDonald, etc.).

First Doctor Appointment

Yesterday we had the first doctor appointment for this pregnancy. They did some preliminary work, including bloodwork and an ultrasound.

We got to see the baby wiggling and moving around. According to the measurements, CDF is 9 weeks along. They said the baby is on the small side for 9 weeks, but that seems to be normal for us.

Seven Weeks Along

CDF was doing some figuring this morning and feels pretty sure that’s she is around seven weeks along in the pregnancy. This will put the due date right at the end of September, and if she’s late, it could be around October 4th!

Looks like we’ll have two fall babies. Just like Dom and I were. Interesting.

Rainy Day

Today it’s been rainy, but CDF and MDF went walking outside anyway. I’ll let her tell it (from our chat earlier).

Atlantic Beach

This fall we spent a couple days at an Atlantic Beach resort with CDF’s parents. It was too cold to spend much time on the beach itself, so we did some shopping and visited a few museums around the area. MDF and I also explored the resort grounds a lot. We took the camera and I got a few pictures, but one that caught my interest later was a view of the sunset from the condo window on the first night.

My Wife’s Thoughts on our Daughter

This weekend CDF wrote an email to update our friends about the goings-on with MD and the rest of us. I wanted to include a copy of it here just to have her perspective.
