Oh, MDF

Monday night, while CDF was leading a Bible study, I was playing with the girls. We were building with blocks in MDFs room and she was making a school. After a while she asked, “What’s math’n’scientist.”

I tried to explain that math was about numbers, and science covered a lot of topics. I don’t think she understood, because she asked the question again. A little later she said, “You know math’n’scientist. You can teach me it in school.” I just had to smile and I told her I would teach her that when she got older.

Rollerskating

This past Saturday I took MDF to Lauren’s birthday party. It was held at Skate City in Wallace. We got there right at 1 PM, when the party was supposed to start. MDF gave Lauren her present and then we went inside and took a look at the rink. It was concrete and reminded me a lot of the old Skate World in Jacksonville.

Library Visit

Saturday afternoon MDF and I went to the library. I’ve been reading the “Fall of Ile-Rien” series by Martha Wells and had finished the second book. MDF went along to spend time with me and see what she could borrow.

We found my book first and then went back to the movies. She looked at a couple of videos and then I asked if she had seen the Swan Princess. Since she hadn’t we grabbed that, and she found a Care Bears DVD to borrow too. She ended up enjoying the Swan Princess, and has watched it twice this weekend. She also wanted me to act out the scenes with her yesterday — we did our best.

Pool

We got (or were given) a pool this year. It’s maybe 10 feet by 5 feet and small enough for our backyard. The girls love playing in it. We try to fill it only full enough for them to play in, but not too deep that CEF can’t crawl.

MDF Swallowed a Pin

This was quite unexpected. CEF has made a reputation for herself that she’ll put anything in her mouth, but MDF should be over that by now. But yesterday, after nap time, she told CDF that she had swallowed a safety pin. At first CDF didn’t believe her, then when she couldn’t find the pin, and when MDF said again, “I told you, I swallowed it,” she decided to call the doctor.

Since our van was in the shop and she couldn’t drive to Wilmington to see our regular doctor, they told her to take MDF to the ER at Pender Memorial down the street to have an X-Ray taken.

Sure enough, the X-Ray showed the safety pin in MDF’s stomach. The doctor said it should pass through without any problem, but if she starts throwing up or having pain, then we’ll need to take her to the specialists in Chapel Hill. We’re praying that doesn’t happen.

Checkers

Also from a June 7 email from CDF:

Here are MDF & CEF playing checkers one night. I think CEF wanted to eat the Care Bears more than she wanted to play with them.

CEF and Dixie

This is from an email CDF sent on June 7, 2007.

Hello all, well last night CEF was playing & inspecting Dixie, much like MDF used to do.

Sniffing

CEF can’t decide if she wants to get up and crawl — Dixie on
the other hand has to smell her head to make sure they know each other…

Eye to eye

Who’s gonna win? Eye to eye contact –CEF was letting Dixie know she’s the boss!

They were really very cute together. Dixie has always been a very gentle and loving dog with our girls. I have questioned whether she would ever defend us…but she has been very protective of the girls when strange people come around the house.

What MDF Says…

The other week MDF had gotten sick while going to New Bern with CDF, and they had stopped and gotten her tums and a sprite. When she got home that night she told me that she had gotten some “green coke” today for her tummy.

Another funny thing: when CEF gets fussy and grumpy I’ll sometimes call her the “Tiny Tyrant.” One time when I was playing with MDF and CEF was scooting over, I called her the “Tiny Tornado of Doom.” MDF took those names and now calls her “The Tiny Tyrant Tornado of Doom” when she’s causing trouble.

Phones

Yesterday MDF decided she wanted to call someone. So she called my Mother (Meemaw) and talked for a while. Later on, when CDF and the girls were shopping I think, Kristen and Anna Cate called and left a message that Anna Cate wanted to talk to MDF and to give them a call back. Then in the evening Galina called the cell phone to talk to MDF — apparently my Mother had said something about it.

So already, only three years old, MDF is getting well accustomed to talking on the phone. I can only imagine what it will be like when they’re both teenagers.

CEF is Scooting Now

CEF has started scooting around on the floor. She uses both elbows and one knee to get around. She is not very fast — until you turn your head and then she has gotten into something before you can look back again.

The other day she was on the living room floor, on her stomach, and I called her to come to me. I didn’t really expect her too, but she started scooting to me and made it to my shoes, where she then go distracted by the laces. Then this morning she was at the beginning of the hallway and had started fretting when I disappeared into the bathroom. So I tried calling her to come to me again. She made it about a third of the way down the hall and then she rolled on her back and started cooing at the ceiling.
